Band recommendation: And So I Watch You From Afar

Hailing from Belfast, And So I Watch You From Afar are a four-piece instrumental post-rock band with something of a vicious edge. Consisting of guitarists Rory Friers and Tony Wright, bassist Johnny Adger and drummer Chris Wee, their unique, vibrant sound encompasses a remarkably vast range of musical styles. Fans of the atmospheric sounds of Mogwai, the progressive chaos of The Fall of Troy’s earlier material, and the larger-than-life resonance of Devil Sold His Soul will instantly fall in love with ASIWYFA, but even comparisons with these three bands does not do this band’s remarkable sound justice. The band released their self-titled debut full-length album earlier this year, and it really is a phenomenal piece of work, that takes the listener through just about every emotion imaginable. The balance between breathtakingly heavy riffage and beautiful moments of delicate serenity is absolutely spot on, and taking into account the sheer level of ambition and technical prowess found on this debut album, who knows what this band is capable of in the future?

ASIWYFA recently embarked on a UK tour in support of Texan post-rockers This Will Destroy You, the last date of which was at Glasgow’s Ivory Blacks on Friday, 23 October. Playing a selection of tracks from the aforementioned debut album, the band were essentially flawless. All four band members played with such raw emotion and power, sounding almost precisely as they do on record, and many in attendance would agree that they perhaps outshone the headliners. Fans in the UK and in mainland Europe need not despair if they missed this tour, however – the boys from Belfast will support Maybeshewill across the continent throughout November, before returning to the UK with Oceansize and Vessels. These dates can be viewed in full below:
