Music Monday Band Recommendations – 26th October 2009

Welcome to this week’s band recommendations for EspyRock.

I have stuck to our regular 5 bands, one which you will likely know of if you have been viewing EspyRock recently.

This week, I cannot lie, band recommendations have been done rather quickly. I have a few other bands in mind but due to time I am unable to feature at this moment, so I will try my best to do another midweek recommendation for you all!

Band 1

Band: The Ascendicate
Check out the album: To Die As Kings
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/theascendicate
Purchase album: Amazon UK (CD) / Amazon UK (MP3) / The Ascendicate - To Die As Kings UK / The Ascendicate - To Die As Kings US

Eric Marlowe – Vocals
Ryan Helm – Guitar, Backing Vocals
Dustin Bryant – Guitar, Backing Vocals
David Dudley – Bass
Chris Wheat – Drums

Hailing from High Point, North Carolina, The Ascendicate is primed and ready to pounce on the metal world with the release of their Solid State debut album “To Die As Kings”.

With a load of catchy melodies weaved throughout each song, The Ascendicate is sure to be a favourite for fans of bands like Slipknot, Killswitch Engage and Sevendust. This album is a must buy for heavy music fans of all types!

Band 2

Band: Bellusira
Check out the album: Enigmatic
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/bellusira
Purchase album: Head to the bands MySpace page for more information as EP just launched

When vocalist Crystal Backman got together with brothers Mark and Richard Dalbeth (bass and guitar respectively) and Ryan Wall (drums) and first presented their unique mix of soaring vocals and powerful, aggressive metal and pop, they were described by a photo-journalist as “beautiful anger”.

And from that comment came their name Bellusira – Latin for “beautiful anger”.

With the melody of The Butterfly Effect, the fire of Rage Against The Machine and the commerciality of Evanescence, Bellusira push the musical boundaries to what will be the next wave of this genre – with songs equally suited to heavy rock arenas and mainstream radio.

Band 3

Band: And So I Watch You From Afar
Check out the album: And So I Watch You From Afar
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/andsoiwatchyoufromafar
Purchase album: Amazon UK (CD) / Amazon UK (MP3) / And So I Watch You from Afar - And So I Watch You from Afar UK / And So I Watch You from Afar - And So I Watch You from Afar US

Written by EspyRock contributor JJPorter – Hailing from Belfast, And So I Watch You From Afar are a four-piece instrumental post-rock band with something of a vicious edge.

Consisting of guitarists Rory Friers and Tony Wright, bassist Johnny Adger and drummer Chris Wee, their unique, vibrant sound encompasses a remarkably vast range of musical styles. Fans of the atmospheric sounds of Mogwai, the progressive chaos of The Fall of Troy’s earlier material, and the larger-than-life resonance of Devil Sold His Soul will instantly fall in love with ASIWYFA, but even comparisons with these three bands does not do this band’s remarkable sound justice.

The band released their self-titled debut full-length album earlier this year, and it really is a phenomenal piece of work, that takes the listener through just about every emotion imaginable.

The balance between breathtakingly heavy riffage and beautiful moments of delicate serenity is absolutely spot on, and taking into account the sheer level of ambition and technical prowess found on this debut album, who knows what this band is capable of in the future?

Band 4

Band: Emil Bulls
Check out the album: Phoenix
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/emilbulls
Purchase album: Amazon.com

Emil Bulls is a German alternative metal band that formed in 1995.

With more than 200 performances in 2008, among them the prestigious Rock am Ring festival, a tour alongside the System Of A Down project, Scars On Broadway, a top 60 chart position for The Black Path and any number of delighted fans, the band found themselves surfing on a wave of success through their native country and beyond. Their reputation as an unusually intense live act spilled to Scandinavia, Slovenia and France, where the Bulls left exhausted but happy fans in their wake.

Phoenix is the fifth major release album from the band and their seventh studio album overall.

EMIL BULLS are:
Christoph von Freydorf – Vocals
Andreas Bock – Guitars
Stephan Moik Karl – Guitars
James Richardson – Bass
Fabian Füss – Drums

Band 5

Band: Stuedabakerbrown
Check out the album: Closer
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/stuedabakerbrown
Purchase album: Amazon UK (MP3) / Stuedabakerbrown - Closer UK / Stuedabakerbrown - Closer US

Written by EspyRock contributor TheMusicMan81 – Stuedabakerbrown is one of New York’s most dedicated and exciting independent rock bands. They originally hail from the NYC suburb of Monroe, NY, where the five members all attended high school together. They began playing extensively in 2001 and have since become a hometown favourite as well as a regional success.

The band draws influences from legends such as U2 and Tom Petty, contemporaries like Coldplay and Jimmy Eat World, and the essence of mid-90’s alternative rock from their youth is evident in their song writing. Boasting irresistible original songs and an unforgettable live performance, the group has grown accustomed to large crowds, has sold out New York City’s famous Bitter End rock club multiple times, and packs other venues such as The Mercury Lounge and The Annex on a regular basis.
