Music Monday Band Recommendations – 2nd November 2009

Welcome to this week’s band recommendations.

As always from myself each week there is 5 bands listed with albums that you should check out.
Each includes a short brief bio taken from the band directly.

Band 1

Band: Trippy Wicked & the Cosmic Children of the Knight

Trippy Wicked & the Cosmic Children of the Knight – A rolling, thundering mass of infectious riffs, distorted gut-busting bass, tripped out vocals, relentless beats and hairy sweaty faces twisted with grins and gurns.
Trippy Wicked & the Cosmic Children of the Knight cut a groove deeper than the ocean abyss.
Playing a mix of stoner rock, doom, sludge and blues the band has officially released the full length debut album on October 30th.

The album captures everything that the band has ever stood for in their music with a 10 track, 52 minute epic musical journey of songs about living the good life, fire, growing beards, girls, aliens, loneliness, pirates, love and so much more.

Movin On is full of the sexiest, sleaziest stoner, doom, blues, whatever-the-hell-you-wanna-call-it riffs you ever heard and was recorded in June 2009 under the warm Dorset sunshine at Chuckalumba studios.

Band 2

Band: Hydrovibe

Hydrovibe began in Louisiana when vocalist Heather St. Marie began collaborating with guitarist Mat Dauzat to create a sound combining dynamic, guitar-driven rock with powerful and commanding vocals.

Gaining great regional success the band decided to branch out and relocated Los Angeles.

With guitarist Mat being picked to play lead guitar for Kelly Osbournes album and on a world tour, Mat and Heather would write music together over the internet until he returned and they could put the wheels into motion.
On Mat’s return the band completed their line-up and took on the task of releasing their first album independently.

During the recording of the Hydrovibe’s first album, they were informed that their song “Killer Inside” would feature on the soundtrack for SAW 3 which led to a break in their album to produce a 5 song EP to support their song.

Hydrovibe would tour the US heavily for two years, sharing the stage withStatic-X, Taproot, Soulfly, Trust Company, Powerman 5000, (Hed) P.E., Black Stone Cherry, Soil, and Drowning Pool.
Gaining a wealth of experience and growing strength to strength on tour, the band returned to their almost complete album to re-record every track, putting all the intensity right into the album to give a much well rounded and complete album.

Band 3

Band: Spoil Engine

This 5-piece metalband from Belgium started out in 2004, combining 90’s metal influences such as Pantera and Machine Head with post modern heaviness and soundscapes.

After a 4-track promo was released in 2006, Spoil Engine recorded their first full album ‘Skinnerbox v.07’ in 2007. This album immediately displayed the band’s pro ambition and vision and led them to appearances on Graspop and support acts for bands such as Volbeat, Arch Enemy, Sepultura and Prong.

After hearing the first pre-production tracks from their new album, Roadrunner Records signed their 1st Belgian metal band in more than 20 years and would release “Antimatter”.

Band 4

Band: Twelve Foot Ninja

Australian based rockers Twelve Foot Ninja, an independent and self funded band, push the boundaries of experimentation with musical styles to create a unique style.

The band describe themselves as a hybrid of genres – metal, dub, yacht rock, funk and world music.

Embracing their unique hybrid of genres, their EP allows you to hear the diverse talent that continues to flow from Australia.

Band 5

Band: Destrophy

Formed in 2002, producer and singer/songwriter Ari scoured Iowa in search of the most talented and success minded musicians to create Destrophy.

With an independent release in 2004 and an EP in 2005, Destrophy has secured a solid foothold as one of the brightest contenders in the modern independent music industry. The bands catchy signature sound and dominating live shows continue to draw large crowds and enthusiastic responses from their continually growing fan base, both here in the US and overseas.

Destrophy has performed with Korn, Disturbed, Stone Temple Pilots, Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Five Finger Death Punch, Saliva, and many others.

On October 27th 2009, the band released their debut worldwide release after signing to Victory Records which seen the release of the above mentioned album, Destrophy.
