Behemoth frontman charged for insulting Catholics

It has been stated that Adam “Nergal” Darski, vocalist of Behemoth has been charged for insulting Roman Catholics.

The story returns to September 2007 where live on stage, Nergal announced the Catholic Church to be “the most murderous cult on the planet” and then he went on to tear a copy of the bible to pieces.

At that time, Ryszard Nowak, head of the All-Polish Committee for Defense Against Sects sued the band for promoting Satanism. Although a group of expert witnesses appeared in court, the case was discontinued as under Polish law, there must be at minimum, two formal complaints before a charge can be made.

Now a second complaint has arisen and due to Polish law, Nergal could be officially charged.

Stated from an interview at his first hearing, Nergal stated that what he does on stage is part of artistic license and it wasn’t supposed to offend religious beliefs.

If he is to be found guilty, he will face up to 2 years in prison.
