Dirtfest started in 1997 as an outlet for promoters Matt Dalton and Kurt Gust to showcase their bands at the time. Locals would refer to Birch Run as “Dirt Run” since there was little more to do than play in the dirt of the small town. Each year, Dalton expanded the Dirtfest and eventually the festival became big enough to host national acts as Four Year Strong, Silverstein, Every Time I Die, Mayday Parade, and The Black Dahlia Murder to play alongside the many local Michigan bands.

This year Dirtfest expands on that idea by once again including local and national metal acts, and also bringing hard rock bands into the mix as well.  Dirtfest 2011 will return to The Birch Run Expo Center and takes place August 13th.
