Download Festival Preview

This weekend I am off to the Download Festival at Castle Donington, headlined by AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine and Aerosmith its gonna be one hell of a weekend!

Here’s my quick preview to the “big 6” (main stage and 2nd stage headliners) and the 5 sets I believe you have to see!

AC/DC:

Well what is there to say that’s not instantly summed up? They have the biggest selling rock album in history, 2nd biggest ever. They don’t do festivals, let’s be fair, they don’t have to! And with a fan base that sells out Wembley Stadium stupidly quickly they could retire now and live forever off the money, but they’re back at Donington once again and will blow the place apart!

Rage Against The Machine

Formed in 1990 the punk-rock anti government band that everyone knows shot back into the spotlight at the tail end of 2009 having beaten X-Factor winner Joe McElderry to the coveted Christmas #1 slot. Having just played a free show to 40,000 fans in Finsbury Park in London, Rage Against The Machine will be ready to show everyone what they’re made of.

Aerosmith

After all the controversy surrounding them at the end of 2009 with singer Steven Tyler having apparently quit the band, Aerosmith are back and touring all over the place this year. With their first UK date being at Download this year, they’ll be out to prove themselves and show they are a band that aint going nowhere!

Bullet For My Valentine

Having recently released their 3rd album, Fever, Bullet For My Valentine will be headlining the Ronnie James Dio stage with a whole host of stadium rocking anthems at their disposal. Another band out to prove critics wrong and based on the album, they’re bound to do it!

30 Seconds To Mars

With a following that has just kept growing over the past few years 30STM are set to bring something different to the 2nd stage this year. With their emo styling’s playing host to a certain type of crowd this is bound to be a show where if you’re watching them, you like them!

Stone Sour

With a new album due in September and a new track getting released this coming Thursday, Stone Sour are back after a 3 year hiatus. Always a crowd-pleaser Corey Taylor will have Donington in the palm of his hand again after last year’s mammoth Slipknot headline set. And with the recent news of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray’s death this is bound to be an emotional one for Corey and Jim.

My Suggestions:

AC/DC

This is going to be insane! With no band wanting to go up against them and bringing their own stage, AC/DC are gonna have Download all to themselves. With a potential crowd of 110,000 people, Angus and Co. are going to tear shit up and put on a show your likely never to forget!

Stone Sour

With this being their return I believe Stone Sour will be out to show they aren’t just Slipknot’s baby brother. They’ll be out to prove they are a band to be reckoned with while showing some emotion for a fallen brother in Paul Gray. Corey Taylor loves Download, and Download loves Corey Taylor!

Megadeth

Bringing the assault of new album, Endgame, for its first UK show, Dave Mustaine and the rest of Megadeth are set to tear Download apart. With over an hour to blast out hits, everything from Rust In Peace to new tracks should be expected from these monstrous thrashers!

Enemo-J

A new British band on the block but damn are they brutal! After getting some airplay on the music channels lately, Enemo-J make a venture outside of Burton On Trent to play the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Tent on Sunday. In such a small tent, the ferocity of the music is gonna be unable to be contained!

Airbourne

I mean, what do I have to say? Powerful Stadium riffs, another Australian playing and a madman of a vocalist who is likely to climb to the top of the stage to play his riffs, need I say more?
