Folk Cover of Sweet Child Of Mine

The Guardian are reporting that a Folk cover version of Guns N’ Roses classic Sweet Child of Mine are to be used in a British Christmas commercial for John Lewis. This is the first time that Guns N’ Roses has allowed use of its music in a British commercial.

The agency’s co-founder, James Murphy, said they had chosen the song because it “captures the innocent excitement of of childhood in a very poignant way” & the aim of the campaign, which features the children playing with adult gifts and morphing into grown ups, was to remind people of the “magic and fevered excitement” of Christmas.

Responsible for this cover version is Swedish Taken By Trees aka Victoria Bergsman.

Taken By Trees have posted this on the band’s website :

Dear All

I never thought it would come to this, me pleading for your help and support. Here I am with a finalised album and a excellent band willing to help me out, making some shows. To keep the music alive. Then the bitter truth comes around and laughs me right in the face. Letting me know it is financially impossible. These hard times does affect all of us. So here I am at stuck at home like a stranded whale. Unable to do any shows simply because there is no money for musicians these days. It feels so sad and boring to poor this all over you. But I didn´t know where else to turn. I am now asking you if you have any ideas or suggestions in how to make this happen,
making it possible for tbt to do some shows?
Maybe you even have a jet-plane for what I knowR30;
Please don´t hesitate in letting us know.
We need all the help we can get.Love

Who knows? Maybe this commercial will give Taken By Trees their much needed financial boost, as other artists have experienced.
