Joe Root says Ben Stokes is an ‘inspiration’ for the entire England team ahead of fourth Ashes Test

Captain Joe Root says how Ben Stokes tactics the game both on and off the field will be a inspiration to get the England team.
Stokes’ unbeaten century led England to a remarkable one-wicket triumph at Headingley to level the Ashes series and tickets for its first four weeks of the Test at Old Trafford are sold out.
Should it go down to the wire again, he’s no doubt that his vice-captain will haul through the side after more or help inspire other people to do so although root is hoping for a victory for England at Manchester.
“One thing that you know about Ben is that if the big occasions come about, he is going to be there,” Root said.
“He will want to become part of it, he is never going to shy away from any sort of struggle, and he’s proven this summer.
“For him, I think he has only got to keep working and doing precisely what he’s doing – he’s flying right now! He needs to harness bottle it up and get the most out of it while he is in this form.
“He is an excellent team man, he is just one of those guys who will go out of his way to help everyone and make sure that they feel like they are ready. He’ll always offer guidance, he’s a fantastic senior participant and pioneer. He reveals on the field.
“He has a good balance of knowing when to say the ideal things. He is very enthusiastic and people are dragged by him . He is just a bloke that is really great.
“If you combine that with the ability and ability that he has and it is a great combination and a wonderful inspiration for not only the young guys coming to this team but the senior players also.”
Root supported Craig Overton will replace Chris Woakes in the England XI while Joe Denly will proceed up to start with Jason Roy falling down to No 4 because the hosts aim to capitalise on the momentum and goodwill caused by their own magnificent win in Headingley.
“When you come off a win like this it is a major lift for the whole group,” he explained.
“For this match to unravel like it did and also for us to turn up here full of confidence and very much alive in this show is… I thought how we played the week before at Lord’s it began to feel as though we had been wrestling our way back into the string and we did a lot of good stuff out there.
“It felt just like last week we left a lot of errors and didn’t quite get it through some individual brilliance and some resilience in our batting in the second innings and high-quality bowling, bar the strange charm here or there, we managed to win.
“In a way, if we can bring those two performances collectively we feel as we’ll be in a excellent place in the end of the week also.”
