Mastodon debut live album and trailer

Mastodon will release their first ever live album entitled ‘Live At The Aragon’ on March 14th on Reprise Records. A CD/DVD package, the film was recorded and film at the band’s show at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom on October 19th 2009 as the band toured in support of their critically acclaimed fourth studio album ‘Crack The Skye.’

‘Live At The Aragon’ sees the band open their set by playing ‘Crack The Skye’ in its entirety. It also features ‘Circle of Cysquatch’ from their 2006 album ‘Blood Mountain’, ‘Aqua Dementia’ from 2004’s ‘Leviathan’ and ‘Where Strides The Behemoth’ and ‘Mother Puncher’ from their 2002 debut ‘Remission’. The album is completed with Mastodon’s brutal interpretation of the Melvins’ ‘The Bit.’

In addition to the 78 minute live film, the DVD will also feature ‘Crack The Skye: The Movie’, a 58 minute tour film containing the films which were projected on screen behind the band during their live shows. These images were created specifically to illustrate the conceptual thread linking each of the songs on ‘Crack The Skye’ and are released here for the very first time, giving the fans a brand new way to re-experience the album.

Also available exclusively through www.mastodonrocks.com is a limited special bundle featuring ‘Live At The Aragon’ together with along with a custom Mastodon guitar pick tin (with embossed picks) and a reproduction of the official Mastodon all access tour laminate, both of which are exclusive to this package.

Mastodon will mark Record Store Day on April 16th by releasing two limited-edition vinyl pressings.  ‘Live At The Aragon’ will be pressed onto 180 gram audiophile weight vinyl which will also be packaged with the DVD of the live show and ‘Crack the Skye: The Movie’.  Also to be released the same day will be an exclusive split 7” vinyl single of the ZZ Top classic ‘Just Got Paid’, with Mastodon’s version on one side backed with the original ZZ Top version on the other, housed in a clear plastic slipcase.

Mastodon are currently writing new material for their next album, with a view to record later this year. They’re due to return to the UK in July to play the Sonisphere festival.
