Petition for Iron Maiden to open the 2012 Olympics

In 2012 the Olympics will be held in London and a Facebook group has opened as a source to petition for Iron Maiden, one of England’s biggest bands, to open the ceremony.

Not only are they aiming to petition for Iron Maiden to open the Olympics, they are also wanting you to help make the band number one by purchasing the single “The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner” on July 19th.

Currently as I write this, only 64 people are open to the idea of a number one from the band but over 40,200 people are voting for the band to open the event.

  1. Have linked to this at

Wonderful idea, wonder if they should use it as the olympic theme song. At least it beats an orchestra

  2. By the way the olympics are in 2012 not 2010

  3. Well caught. I got the headline correct just not the actual text.

It would actually make the opening ceremony worth watching.

I can just see Eddie running through the stadium with the torch, creating chaos.
