Slayer Drummer to create solo album

Dave Lombardo on a recent interview with Classic Rock has stated that he will release a solo album in 2010, and it will showcase a different side of him.

Below is what he had to say to Classic Rock:

If you’re a metalhead then you may not appreciate a lot of what’ll be on it. It’s really world music with an edge. And an opportunity for me to reveal a different side to my playing – much more avant-garde.

It won’t have any singing, or other instruments apart from drums and percussion. It’s my vanity project, I suppose. I’ve been working on it for a while, and hope to get it finished soon.

Lombardo is currently on tour with Slayer supporting the upcoming release of their 10th studio album World Painted Blood.

The 11 track album will be released October 28th in Japan, with a release in Australia October 30th. The album is then due to be released November 2nd around the world with the final release marked in North America on November 3rd.

Slayer announced on September 15th that you will be able to pick up the album with four different covers. Each cover would represent part of the world map covered in blood, fitting to the title World Painted Blood, and when pieced together would of course give you the complete map.

I am unaware for fans, who would rather not buy four copies of the album; if there will be a way to purchase the last of the artwork to complete the world map; something I will look into for you.
