Tranmere 1-1 Southend: Paul Mullin penalty salvages point for Rovers

An penalty from substitute Paul Mullin saw Tranmere come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Southend.
Mullin stepped up and confidently smashed home, after being upended by Nathan Ralph in the box.
Southend fell when Tom Hopper – to his first start in a year – trimmed an attempt neatly over keeper Scott Davies after fulfilling Simon Cox’s through-ball.
It should have been when an undercover Tim Dieng planted a header wide from six metres out.
After pouncing after a handling error by Davies, cox subsequently lifted a shot on the roof of the web.
Rovers’ almost drew level just before the break when Corey Blackett-Taylor swept an angled strike just over the top.
Following the restart Davies made a save to keep Isaac Hutchinson’s powerful drive out.
Rovers responded seeing with a shot cleared off the line by Joe Shaughnessy, and were finally rewarded after a closing 20 minutes.
