Album Review: Pathology – Awaken to the Suffering
Since forming in 2006, California’s Pathology have been consistently hailed as one of the better death metal bands on the circuit and this month they return with their fourth album, and second on Victory Records, ‘Awaken to the Suffering.’
After a couple of line-up changes since the release of their last album, there was a little bit of a worry for what the newest album from the twisted metallers would be like; I’m pleased to say it is just as brutal as anything else they have done in the past.
There is nothing really innovative about the album, but the ferocity is there from the get go and if you enjoy extreme metal, you will enjoy this.
The guttural vocals are complimented well by the blasting of the drum kit. New guitarist Kevin Schwartz has also brought something new to the table with solos that bring a new sense of intricacy while keeping the music heavy and the brutality levels at dangerous levels.
This is not an album for the feint-hearted, it is also not for anyone who expects intricate hooks and clean vocals at all times. Simply this is for anyone who wants their music extreme with indistinguishable lyrics.
Rating: 7/10
